Keala came to Second Life to surf.
Arriving at the first beach break she could find, with nothing but an overwhelming need to catch a wave, she met some of the warmest and most generous people in-world. Friends who gave her stuff to wear on the water, lent her their boards, introduced her to their favourite surf spots…
Some are real life surfers from all over the world, while others live too far from the beach in real life and indulge in the dream of daily, perfect waves within SL. Either way, these residents return to the beach every day to play in the water, catch their daily wave, teach new residents to surf, and share their passion for the sport.
Namiko is literally translated from Japanese to mean ‘wave’ (nami) + ‘child’ (ko). It could very loosely mean ‘child of the wave’. Namiko Surf Co. is very much the child of the surf community and culture within Second Life, raised by the generosity and passion of the residents.
The mission of Namiko Surf Co. is simply to harness the healthy, positive energy and enthusiasm for surfing within Second Life and create a direct, tangible benefit in real life. Surf Second Life, Change Real Life. A portion of all sales made within Second Life is directed to The Surfrider Foundation in real life.
Our goals are:
- To supply Second Life residents with richly inspired and impeccably handcrafted surf clothing, swimwear and gear.
- To pass on a portion of profits to support the protection of oceans and surf locations in real life. Specifically clean water initiatives and beach preservation through Surfrider Foundation.
- To provide education on the design, process and creation of traditional textiles found in surf destinations worldwide, with a focus on preservation of knowledge and continued support of traditional craft.
- To promote the healthy and positive participation in Second Life surfing by all residents.
- To encourage and support the development of world-class Second Life surf destinations and an in-world surf industry.
- To support the organization and management of a series of elite and dynamic competitive and non-competitive surf events within Second Life.
See you on the water,
Keala
