Competitor Entry
Competitors can enter the upcoming surf contests by sending an IM or email to Keala Mimistrobell (keala [dot] mimistrobell [at] gmail [dot] com). Entries close on the Thursday at 11:59 PM SLT before the contest. Heats will be randomized at the start. Depending on the number of entries, heats will include four or five surfers at the same time. Women and men will compete all together — no division based on gender.
Contest Rashies
Depending on the event, competitors may be asked to wear colour-coded rashguards and use coloured surfboards to assist the judges during the competition. The rashguards will be dropped to the competitors before the competition. Surfboards will be distributed to the competitors on the day of the event. Check the heat draw to see which colour you will be wearing for the first round. After that, the MC will announce which colour to wear.
One Person Per Wave! No dropping in!
Surfers must line up on the right-hand side of the wave and go in order. PLEASE respect priority and go in order. If someone is up for a wave in rotation and misses it, they have to go to the end of the rotation (a small penalty for a swing and a miss). Either Keala or another event official will open a group IM for each heat and announce the start and end of each heat. If the judges see two surfers on the same wave, both surfers will have penalties against their scores.
Timed Heats
Each heat will last for 10 (TEN) minutes. Each surfer will get scored on the waves they complete during that time frame with the top two scores counting towards the final score for that heat. Top half of the heat moves on to the next heat.
Scoring
Scoring will be based on 1) length of ride, 2) tricks, 3) style, 4) technical execution (like hitting the wave at the right spot, right timing). Each of these points can be scored from 0 to 3 with the total score for the wave adding up to a maximum of 12. Riding backwards in the wave doesn't count. A wave that disappears when you catch it doesn't count either.
Surfboard/Equipment/Attachments
In the interest of fairness and also to prevent/minimize issues with lag while surfing, competitors should detach all HUDs, flight enhancers, and AOs ('detach', not just 'turn off'). No other attachments, other than prim hair and minimal jewelry, if any. Depending on the competition, competitors may or may not be supplied with surfboards. Please check the specific contest rules for this information.
